Lemon Agave French Toast

I have never been a breakfast person, but french toast makes my knees week. Just the thought of them, makes me smile and want to run 10 miles, just so i can eat them.
I don't make them often, but this past saturday the boy really wanted something different for breakfast, he is a piece of fruit and glass of milk kinda guy most mornings. I told him i would make him french toast, but only if we could share! I made 4, he had 3 and i had 1. And then i was happy...
When making french toast , you can't hurry. I like soaking the bread in the milk and egg mixture for about 20 minutes or more and never press on the bread for faster suction, or you will end up with a soggy toast.

Ingredients for 4
4 thick slices crusty bread, day or two old ( i use my homemade Italian bread )
1 cup half & half
2 eggs
2 tablespoons agave nectar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
zest of 1 lemon
2 tablespoons butter
maple syrup and fresh berries for serving

In a mixing bowl, lightly beat the eggs. Add lemon juice, lemon zest, agave, almond extract and half & half. Whisk it well and pour in a large deep dish big enough to fit all 4 slices. Place the bread in milk mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes, without touching it. Flip the bread and let it sit for another 10 minutes.
Heat 1/2 tablespoon of butter in a frying pan until melted. Place bread carefully and over medium low heat, cook for about 3-4 minutes a side. You can cook 2 toasts at a time, just use more butter.
Serve warm with berries and maple syrup.
